This flooring calculator works out how many boxes of flooring you need from room dimensions and per-box coverage.

Formula notes

area = length × width; boxes = ceil(area × (1 + waste%) / coverage per box).

Worked examples

1. Example: a 5 m × 4 m room with 10% waste needs 22 m² of flooring; at 2 m² per box that is 11 boxes.
2. A 18 m2 room with 8% waste requires 19.44 m2 of flooring; if packs cover 2.2 m2, rounding up means buying 9 packs.

1. Measure the room length and width.
2. Enter the coverage per box from the product label.
3. Add waste for cuts and pattern matching, then read boxes.

Frequently asked questions

Limits and interpretation

• A single rectangular area does not capture alcoves, angled walls, stairs, fixed cabinets, or pattern direction.
• Waste depends on plank size, layout, batch matching, defects, and installer practice; a default percentage is not universal.
