About this calculator
Formula notes
tip = bill × tip% / 100; tax = bill × tax% / 100; total = bill + tip + tax; per person = total / people.
Worked examples
- Example: a 200 bill with 15% tip, 5% tax, and 4 people gives 30 tip, 10 tax, 240 total, and 60 per person.
- For a 286.40 bill, an 18% tip is 51.55; adding 7.5% tax gives a 359.43 total, or 89.86 each for 4 people after final rounding.
How to use it
- Enter the bill before tip.
- Set the tip, tax, and number of people.
- Review both the total and per-person amounts.
Frequently asked questions
Is the tip calculated before tax?
Yes. Both percentages use the bill amount you enter, so tax is not included in the tip base.
Can I calculate a no-tip split?
Yes. Set tip to 0 and enter the number of people; the calculator will still divide the bill and any tax.
Limits and interpretation
- The tool applies tip and tax percentages to the entered pre-tip bill; local receipts may calculate tax or service charges on a different base.
- Currency rounding can leave a one-cent remainder when the rounded per-person amount is multiplied back by the number of people.
