About this calculator
Formula notes
width = d·cos(atan(h/w)), height = d·sin(atan(h/w)); area = width × height.
Worked examples
- Example: a 24″ 16:9 screen is about 20.92″ wide × 11.77″ high ≈ 246.1 square inches.
- A 55-inch 16:9 screen is approximately 47.94 inches wide and 26.96 inches high, excluding the bezel.
How to use it
- Enter the diagonal size in inches.
- Enter the aspect ratio like 16:9.
- Read width, height, and total area.
Frequently asked questions
Why is area not proportional to diagonal inches?
Area grows with the square of size, so a 32″ screen has about 78% more area than a 24″ one.
Does this include bezels?
No. It computes the active panel area only.
Limits and interpretation
- Nominal diagonal may be rounded and usually excludes or differs from chassis and bezel dimensions.
- Curved displays, non-rectangular panels, and usable safe areas are not captured by flat rectangular geometry.
