About this calculator

This high school GPA calculator averages up to 20 course grades with equal weights, credits, course-type bonuses, or both.

Formula notes

GPA = Σ(grade + type bonus) × weight ÷ Σweight for credit-weighted honors/AP modes, or Σ(grade + bonus) ÷ count otherwise, rounded to two decimals.

Worked examples

  1. Example: an A (4.0) in a 3-credit honors course and an A− (3.7) in a 1-credit AP course give (4.5×3 + 4.7×1) / 4 = 4.05.
  2. An A (4.0) in a 3-credit honors course plus an A− (3.7) in a 1-credit AP course gives (4.5×3 + 4.7×1) / 4 = 4.05.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between weighted and unweighted GPA?

Unweighted GPA uses the raw grade values only; weighted GPA adds course difficulty bonuses such as +0.5 for honors or +1 for AP/IB/college courses.

How is the cumulative GPA combined?

The calculator weights the new GPA by the new credits and the prior GPA by the previous credits, then divides by the total credits.

Limits and interpretation

  • Grade-point scales differ by school; the calculator follows the captured 4.0-scale with +0.5 honors and +1.0 AP/IB bonuses and cannot infer a custom scale.
  • The result is an estimate of the entered courses only and is not an official transcript or a college-admission calculation.
