BMI Weight Loss Calculator

Compute BMI, percentile and target weight based on reference percentile tables.

Calculator

About this calculator

This BMI weight loss calculator estimates your current BMI, BMI prime, BMI percentile, and the target weight needed to reach a chosen BMI.

Formula notes

BMI = weight (kg) / height (m)²; target weight = target BMI x height (m)²; weight difference = current weight - target weight.

Worked examples

  1. Example: height 175 cm and weight 70 kg gives BMI 22.86; a target BMI of 24 requires about 73.5 kg.
  2. For height 160 cm and weight 60 kg, BMI is 23.44; a target BMI of 21 corresponds to about 53.8 kg.

How to use it

  1. Enter height, weight, age, and sex.
  2. Set a target BMI or choose from the athlete option.
  3. Read BMI, BMI prime, percentile, target weight, and weight difference.

Frequently asked questions

Is BMI an exact body-fat measurement?

No. BMI is a screening index and does not directly measure body fat, muscle mass, or body composition.

What does BMI percentile show?

The percentile compares the calculated BMI with a reference population of the same age and sex, which can be more useful than BMI alone.

Limits and interpretation

  • BMI does not distinguish fat from muscle and should not be used as the only health assessment.
  • The target weight is a mathematical result; weight-loss plans should be set with a healthcare professional.
