Fuel efficiency calculation

1. **Fill your tank completely** and reset the trip odometer to zero (trip meter). 2. Drive as you normally would, then at the next fill-up, record the **fuel amount** you put in and the **distance driven**. 3. Enter both values below.

Fuel cost and consumption

About this calculator

This fuel cost calculator estimates the cost of a trip from distance, vehicle consumption, and fuel price.

Formula notes

fuel needed = distance × consumption; cost = fuel needed × price per unit.

Worked examples

  1. Example: 300 km at 8 L/100km with fuel at 8/L costs 24 L × 8 = 192.
  2. A 750 km trip in a car rated at 6.5 L/100 km needs about 48.75 L; at $1.80/L, estimated fuel cost is $87.75.

How to use it

  1. Enter the trip distance.
  2. Enter consumption (L/100km or MPG) and fuel price.
  3. Read fuel needed and total cost.

Frequently asked questions

Should I use city or highway consumption?

Use the figure matching your route; mixed trips can split legs and add.

Can I compare two cars?

Yes — run both consumption figures and compare the total cost side by side.

Limits and interpretation

  • The estimate assumes the entered fuel economy remains constant across the whole route.
  • It excludes tolls, parking, detours, idling, charging or hybrid energy, currency changes, and regional fuel-price variation.
